I am removing my geraniums from my window boxes and plan to take cuttings and propagate them indoors under grow lights. Do the cutting have to be just the green stem part or can I cut back to the woody part of the stem?
when branches break, i usually put them straight into the soil, wood or not, i have yet to loose a single cutting. even the ones that were rooted indoors are blooming fine under a reg florescent light. i rarely use any rooting hormone, as i prefer to keep that for my 'other' indoor plants, lol. i also have several in my legal medical growroom, and they root under 6x1000 watt Growlux bulbs, in a 12/12 cycle without fail... but i also use a co2 bleeder system.
Thanks for the advice. I took about 30 cuttings some weeks ago and they have all rooted indoors under my grow lights. I took a mix of green and wood cuttings to see what would happen to both and they have all rooted and all look very healthy. I am looking forward to having plenty of plants for my window boxes next Spring.
