    Hi people,
I planted garlic out in the garden on Oct 5 and it is beginning to pop up already. Did I plant it too early and will it be damaged by frost? I wasn't planning to mulch it but would it be smart to cover it with a floating cover or something like that? This is my first time planting garlic. Any advice will be much appreciated.

Garlic is quite winter hardy, and I don't think you can plant it too early. The well developed root system will keep it from being frost-heaved out of the ground, which will happen if you plant too late.

I think due to the extra sun we've been getting of late is probably the reason for the early growth. Also the beginning of October is just fine. I would also add drainage, drainage, drainage but that would be for next year. Good luck
