What is the most interesting thing you have ever found in your garden? When I gardened in my 1911 garden in Burnaby for almost 30 years, I used to find so many fascinating artifacts like old mason jars, completely intact, old flashlight head gear, all kinds of rusting stuff . . . I felt like an archeologist of sorts. I still have a bucket full of mysterious 'things'. It obviously predated garbage collection so most household refuse was dumped in a low corner of the property. I could dig down in the rock-free soil for at least 2 feet; so much fun. Today I read this headline "Gardener finds grenade near Olympic Village: VPD | CTV News" and am curious to hear what you other gardeners have discovered during your garden adventures.
I've been gardening in our North Burnaby 50 ft lot since 1975 and have dug up most of the yard that wasn't excavated for our house in 1985. I've also found lots of trash buried all over the back yard. Most of it appeared to have been burned in small pits scattered around the yard and then covered with dirt. As a result, most of the trash is in fragments; and nothing interesting has turned up. There have been a few whole bottles but also melted ones. I can't say that I enjoy finding these archeological artifacts; it's taken a lot of time to remove and dispose of all of the trash. I still find glass and ceramic fragments regularly while cultivating the vegetable garden.
I'm sure everyone who read about the discovery of a carrot growing through a ring in a vegetable garden was completely amazed. It sounded legit but I have to admit to being a bit skeptical. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/engagement-ring-found-on-carrot-alberta-1.4248131 A neighbour found a gold wedding ring in her garden but the only gold I ever dug up was one half of a hunter-case watch.
