Garden mulch

Hi, last year when I visited your garden beds you were using a type of straw (is that for mulch and also weed prevention)? the straw was amazing, it was huge with big air holes in the blade (great for warmth I'm sure). Anyway, where do you get it? Thanks

 

I can direct this question to a horticulturist, but would need to know which area of the garden this was used. The Food Garden, perhaps?

We have picked up that straw mulch the last few years from KJM Country Gardens Nusery in Southlands. We pick it up for Apple Festival in October but I would not be surprised if they carry it year round.

You are correct that is very effective for weed suppression and also moisture retention in the soil.
