Thank you so much Ron B.

Is this a fruit that we can eat off the tree?? What do you do with a quince?? Is it just like a pear??

Not edible off the tree, but makes excellent jam.

Also good baked, and added to vodka and aged, makes an excellent liquer.

The fruits are the familiar motivation for planting this but the flowers are actually rather large and conspicuous.

I find medlar similar in this way. In both cases, their ornamental value greatly exceeds my affinity for their fruit.

Thank you both so much for your replies. I was hoping that I had a pear tree, but that's okay. What would I look up to learn how to make the jam? Quince jam??

Not just jam, but exquisite jelly, also membrillo, a sliceable paste served with cheese and crackers. Also nice grated into apple pie or cobbler. And just bring a few ripe quince into your house in the fall as a source of fragrance. (I do like them, yes).
