    This photo of black lily was taken in my garden last week. It's a three-year old seedling grown from locally collected seed. Fritillaria camschatcensis is still fairly common in estuarities here along the Sunshine Coast. Another name for it is 'rice root' because First Nations people used to dig it up for the edible rice-like bits of bulb.
