    Hello everyone,

    I need help...

Today I went to go grab my soil and i opened the bag and flying bugs came out. They looked similar to fruit flies. I have had this bag of soil for about 3 months. Does soil go bad??

Also, right after I went to go examine my plants and i saw these bugs flying around in the soil. On about 5 of my plants. They were everywhere. eeek. Anyways, I sprayed my plants with soapy water, which I had read on another website. Was this the right thing to do? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to rid of these critters? Is it easy? I read that they may be fungus gnats? Is this true?

Help, I'm trying to be a loving plant owner and I don't ever want my plants to be harmed, They are my babies.

Okay so I just went outside to go throw out my soil and there were 2 other ladies talking about their plants having bugs (really weird, because it had just happened to me) and they live in the same building as me and they as well had bugs flying around their plants. They threw their plants out! I don't want to have to do this.

Go buy new soil. Dispose of old soil in trash. Rinse plants under water and wash all soil away from roots. Make sure all dead debree or rotten roots are gone. Replant plants. Water plants with an organic pesticide. Just incase gnats are flying around in the house still. There is probably a better way to do this but I have done this with white flies infesting my house plants before.

If fungus gnats, could do a "search" on this site for solutions or look at previous threads in this forum.
