My friend is getting married in early June, and she would like to use clippings from a flowering tree or bush in her centerpieces... any suggestions?
Rhododendrons would be nice. Just note that they will not open further when cut, so cut only open flowers.
Early June is a the very end of Rhododendrons, tho some late varieties may still be around. Some kalmias will be in bloom, and some of the later deciduous azaleas. Styrax and stewartias, along with Chinese dogwood would be blooming then. In the non-shrubby, our Japanese iris peak in early June, and cut very well.
Depends on which rhododendrons you are talking about, some will still be left to open as late as July. Rhododendron auriculatum may sit there until August some years, then explode into flower and growth.
That is true; there are also some late blooming hybrids, like Polar Bear and Summer Glow. But if looking for material for bouquets, finding good rhododendrons in early June is not as easy as in mid-May.
