I'm having problems getting my african violet to actually produce violets. It is potted, fed, watered and lit properly, yet all I seem to have is a healthy pot of leaves. Any suggestions?
I let mine get root-bound and also give them bright indirect light and little direct sun which seems to do the trick. If they are over feed, they can push out lots of new leaves, but no flowers. Multiple plants in a pot might also inhibit flowering, or at least flower less then normal.
i've found that the self-watering pots work best to keep the moisture level constant. and, west-facing windows work well for light. where i live now, i don't have windows that get that light, so i've got them on a plant stand with plant lights that i keep on a timer (set to go on at dawn and stay on for about 12 hours). the combo of the self-watering pots and the lights on timers has my av's blooming almost constantly.
