February 1, 2013 - Hamamelis

    We posted Hamamelis mollis weeks ago, and they're still looking excellent. Nadia and I tried to take artsy photos. Lily was with us, but she missed out on the portrait session. Now these are very fragrant, much more than last month when it was colder.

    Now there are more in bloom. It seems that the darker they are, the later they come into bloom, but I have no idea if that's really the case.

    Here is Hamamelis x intermedia 'Fireglow'. The close-up is from the left foreground.

    This has the same name, but it has a darker red colour. It's in the right background of the comparison photo above.

    Darker still is Hamamelis vernalis 'Sandra'.

    And not yet in bloom, but looking like it will be the darkest, is Hamamelis 'Carmine Red'.
