I came home from vacation to see the top of my fat albert blue spruce turning brown and dropping its needles. It was planted last year and has been doing well. Does this sound like a watering problem or a bug issue?

Well, some info. would be helpful - has it been raining more than usual there? Have you seen any bugs on the tree? How are others nearby doing?

during the spring we had 16 inches of rain over a four to five day period. Then the weather turned over to extremely hot for a one week period. Have an irrigation system for lawn but water trees according to landscapers directions. all other platings done at the same time (hemlock, aroborvitaes) are doing fine. have sprayed for spider mites according to our landscapers directions. also have a leonard magnolia within 15 feet of fat albert. it is doing well. No evidence of infestation. Have ants in the yard but a service comes twice a year and puts down outdoor barrier food traps, etc. what other info would be helpful?
