excited about learning

I just purchased two sago palms.How do i care for them,and when should I repot them.They both have new sets of leaves but are in a pot that is not very practical.In fact they are sitting in soil that is about three inches below the top of the pot.All advice would be greatly appreciated,I am new at this so I need all the help I can get.
