I have 8 tall cedars around my pool. They are 12 feet high and 10 years old. I have always watered them weekly. They have always been very lush and healthy. Last year they started to brown a little. I thought nothing of it and blamed it on the summer heat. However, this spring, almost all the cedars in south western Onatrio have signs of brown damage. Glad to see it's not just me but does anyone know what's happening? Is it the Ontario ban on insecticide? I have had an arbourist look at the trees and he said they have 2 problems, fungus and mites. I sprayed them with a sulfer solutiuon for the fungus and used Sevin insecticide. They are showing signs of new growth but still brown in the middle. I can take the needles off with a light draw of my hand across the branch.(brown ones)
My concern is that it's not just me, I've noticed about a 100 km radius around Waterloo region has the same problem. Could it be that it rained for almost 2 months non-stop?
