My Eddie's White Wonder doesn't lose its leaves in the fall. Last year many leaves hung on until I pulled them off in late spring. This year it appears that very few have fallen. The tree is about 12 yrs old.

Japanese maples may do this also.

Why would it not loose its leaves and is it ok to pull them off?

Yes, pull dead ones off if you like.

Is there any research on why this happens or is it 'just one of those things'?
    And thank you for replying...

Some of my Oak trees always keep their dead leaves all winter.
This winter the same happened to my White Currant, Hawthorn, some Blueberries.
I don't think it is something to worry about. They will lose them eventually.

Thanks for the info...BTW, the tree didn't lose its leaves last year. I had to pull many of them off. It's a strange phenomenon...looks lovely though with the dark brown leaves...

It seems to me that this tends to occur on younger trees of several species & the leaves drop off more as they become mature. Beeches do this too.

Like my head hair, maybe? Says I: "I am NOT becoming bald. I am merely maturing like the noble Dogwood Tree".
