Durgan, mine always seem to sulk and the clumps grow only very, very slowly. Is this typical?

Yes, My experience indicates that they grow slowly, but they appaar every year, and the cluster gets slowly larger. The flowering head stays for almost a month or more. I always like to look at them. I have a particularly large cluster now.
