I live in the Niagara area and our backyard is surrounded by a 10ft. eastern white cedar hedge. We have noticed lately that it seems to be thinning out so that you can see through it. There is a pine tree behind it in our neighbours yard that has been there probably as long as the hedge. I have been removing the pine needles from under the hedge but was wondering if there is a fertilzer we should be using? We had a dry summer but I was watering under the hedge when I could. Do these cedars go through a cycle that they thin out or should I be doing something in the spring that will help them thicken out. There is always new growth on the top that we keep trimmed once a year. Thanks for your help.
