Several people have recommended Desert King as perhaps best for this area (strange name for a fig suited to the cool PNW!). Growing up, our Brown Turkey was maddening for ripening fruit in like Oct/Nov...which meant almost never any real crop. Also, in East Van, look for ethnic gardeners who have successful trees, many of them will share a cutting, and many will have a few rooted somewhere for sharing, in my experience. These may be trees originally from Italy, etc. without any specific "name", but some of them ripen beautiful big crops every year. The trees that ripen a crop easily in the summer are such a godsend, compared to those that just don't work for our climate.
