I have a shady front entrance with a narrow path that has caused me frustration over the years. I am thinking of trying one of the following. Vaccinium vitis ideae,Sarcaccoca,or Gaultheria.
Any suggestions to my selections would be apprciated.
I am looking for a tall 30+ centimeters evergreen fern, not our native polystichum. The ferns would be placed along a foundation wall with skimmia and viburnum davidii in front.
    Thank you.Aileen

for a fern consider deer fern aka ladder fern, Blechnum spicant. the new growth is upright and the previous years growth is horizontal.

Have you considered a dwarf yew such as Cephalotaxus harringtonia ? Grows a little over knee high and spreads horizontally. I have one which has been passed down to my aunts who is now deceased, to my mother and now to me. It has done well in summer shade under the edge of a crape myrtle. Check www.plantdelights.com and search for yew for a picture and more info.
