Today my Dragon Arum (Dracunculus vulgaris) bloomed. This is the first year it bloomed, I'm very pleased so I thought to share.
What an amazing lady! Do you know what specific kind it is? I don't get to see very many arums here in Kansas. The closest is our Jack in the Pulpits
Wait until you get a stalk 3' tall. Or you get a whole patch of them, with several opening at once. Whew!
It is, Dranunculus vulgaris, I got ordered two from Veseys two years ago. http://www.veseys.com/ca/en/store/fallbulbs/arum/dragonarum Yes, I've read that they tend to get bigger and have more blooms year after year. We shall see! or rather smell...
Thanx for the link! I'll look into it to see if I could successfully grow those in Kansas. Our winters here are mild so might be able to. Thanx again And so beautiful!
Hey! You beat me. Mine are not blooming yet, due to the cold Spring. They should be ready in about a week. Some people hate the flower, but I think is is most interesting. It is always fun, taking someone to see it and then they get the odor.
Vancouver has been remarkably warm this spring, unlike that last year which was called June-uary. I have family out in Ontario and they are surprised with the cold this year, really strange for Ont. I love this flower. I think it is so interesting I would grow some of he other stinkers - corpse flower etc.. but I'm pretty sure it's too cold hear and I've been told they smell horrible for days on end! yuck. I love the richness of the colouring. There aren't many black/ almost black plants out there and I like it for that reason. I have little black pansies that I love and those rpurple almost black geraniums, but those I think were hybridized whereas this one is naturally dark (i think). Post some pictures when your flower blooms, would love to see it! Anne
