Hello, I'm a novice plant owner and have a newly purchased (1 month ago) Dracaena deremensis 'Janet Craig' houseplant, its about 6' tall. Recently I noticed some of the tips are turning black, as well as part of the middle of some of the leaves. They told us to water it weekly when we purchased. See attached photos.

Give us a long shot of the plant in its pot if you can.
Does the plant have good drainage? What is the soil like?
Give us details of where the plant lives---light, temp, humidity level, etc.
When you water, do you do so thoroughly? Tap or filtered water, room temp?
The more info and details you give us, the more we can help!

    Welcome to the Forum!

    - the pot has a dish under it, see pic of the soil, but it almost feels like it has ground up charcoal, but very light weight.

Give us details of where the plant lives---light, temp, humidity level, etc.
    - its at the far end of a room with a bunch of windows so it gets pretty good light
    - Not too much humidity in S.F.
    - the temp is a pretty consistent 68-70
    - the pot is the same size as the temp pot it came it, but i figure its a little small and plan to upsize.

When you water, do you do so thoroughly? Tap or filtered water, room temp?
    - probably 3 cups of water off the tap at room temp

Get the plant into a pot twice that size with good soil. Mix in some perlite, vermiculite---I use orchid bark, which is great stuff.

When you water, do so thoroughly---forget that '3 cups' thing and water till all the soil is moist and the water drains out the bottom. Room temp water is good.

My diagnosis is moisture issues, or, more exactly, LACK-of-moisture issues.

Also a good idea to have a look at the roots. If they are healthy, and you give the plant good soil and some room to grow in, it will probably be OK. Looks good otherwise.
