does rainwater go bad?

    I am collecting rainwater to water my bonsais with, but i am afraid the water may go bad come spring and summer, does anyone know if this is true?

    Seems likely to grow bacteria, mold or even algae unless sterilized. This would be affected by what was already in it when put into storage and how it was stored.
