We have a plum tree in its 2nd year of fruiting. This year most fruits have developed cracks in the form shown in the photographs below: Example 1 Example 2 Fruits expected to be fully ripe in 4-5 weeks time. I would appreciate any information/suggestions to the possible causes of the damage to the fruit. Many thanks
Rain cracking maybe? I'm really no expert on stone fruit but I see some plums that come into work (produce market) that have similar damage. I am told that it is due to rain landing on the surface of the fruit and being absorbed. If that is the case then maybe spraying the remaining undamaged fruit with a safe water-repellent solution would make sense? Once again I'll stress that I'm not very knowledgable about the subject hahaha, but I guess it's something to think about if you don't get any other responses today. Good luck.
