This is my first year with a dahlia and I absolutely love the plant. Actually, I may be hooked. Anyway, my plant is in a 12" deep pot and is very healthy. The only problem is the flowers seems to rot extremely fast. I may only get 12-24 hours with each flower before they start turning brown. The plant is about 12" in diameter and maybe 12" high. Usually there are 2-3 flowers at all times on the plant. Any help of suggestions are appreciated.

Just as an additional note, I have read my problems might be due to thrips. I thought thrips attacked the bud, not the flower. Does anyone know if thrips attack flowers after they have bloomed? Should I be spraying my flowers with Orthene? Thanks.

I bought 6 dahlia bulbs this year and planted 4. All four of them rotted before even starting to grow. I have no idea why. I planted and watered exactly as the package said.
