I am trying to salvage a cyrtomium fortunei, currently growing under azaleas. I have conflicting info on requirements-lots of lime, acid okay, full shade, etc. My inclination is to dig it up and put in a pot with leaf mold and concrete rubble, need to know if I am on the right track. Or I could just throw it in compost and try something else!!

Our books say to grow in humus rich moist but well drained soil in partial to full shade. If it's too soggy in the winter (lack of drainage) the fern is susceptable to root rot. So if you want to pot it I would say try sticking it in a pot of humus (maybe with a bit of added sand for drainage) and the humus can supply your fern with nutrients to take the stress out of attempting to fertilize correctly.
