We are looking for a conifer that will reach a maximum height of 20 feet (under hydro lines) suitable for Vancouver Island (zone 7) preferably reaching that height sooner than later.

    Thank you,
    Teresa

This comes up fairly frequently, someone wants something that stays relatively small but attains that size relatively fast. You want to have and eat the proverbial cake. That is a rare or non-existent combination I think (for conifers). But there should be lots of dwarf or intermediate conifers work great for you. But you'll probably have to splurge for a nice sized specimen , be patient, or split the difference.

Agree with Todd - any conifer that gets to your desired height quickly won't stop there, it'll go on, and on, and on, till it towers high over the lines.

Some of the smaller bamboos might be a better idea in this situation.
