HI, I am currently growing Cryptomeria and Cunnighamia seedlings. This is my first successful germination of both trees. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good websites that would have some pictures that could help me to gauge growth rates. I would also like to know some specs such as soil temp for maximum growth, fert rates and light exposure. I am organically growing them under a 400 watt mh bulb. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Under supplementary light, I'd expect you should get quite fast growth, maybe 30-50cm in their first year. Not sure a 400 watt mh bulb counts as organic, though. It's a bit like adding an artificial fertiliser. I suspect you'd have to grow them under a daffodil bulb or similar to be organic ;-)
Michael F-- I apologize for the confusion, what I meant to say was that I only use organic soil medium & fertilizers. Can you please clarify what a daffodil bulb is? That is an unfamiliar term to me. Is it a high pressure sodium bulb?
Yeah, I was referring to 400 watt metal halide grow lights. But thank you for the informative pics of the daffodils. There is a Daffodil Festival near us here in Washington that I enjoy every year!
