I am a first timer user, so please forgive any loss of etiquette! Can anyone please tell me why in their first year this plant had enormous dark burgundy leaves (3' long) and did so well (6'tall). Then it died back almost to nothing and now in its second year it is only 10" high with very small leaves - but still looks healthy. Will it ever come back to its former glory or should I replace it with a fresh one. It always had pride of place in a raised garden bed of very rich soil, protected from winds, in high humidity and yet full sun for most of the day in summer.
    Thanks for any advice

Have you been feeding it enough, they are hungry plants. Lots of water, lots of manure and such. They can get really set back if the winter is cold. I wouldn't think in Australia that that would be an issue though.
