Hi, I am planting 3 Chinese Fringe trees in my front yard. (Western Exposure in Sunset zone 17.) I will also plant a western redbud. Looking for 1 more tree that will look nice with these and require moderate/low water. Will also be planting CA natives - coffeeberry (for screening a path), ribes, western mock orange, groundcover (no lawn!) and other perennials along a walkway. Would love ideas.
    Thanks!

Cupressus macnabiana. CA native (not in Marin, but as close as Sonoma), with delightful spicy-resinous foliage scent.

Something with purple foliage, like a purple smoke bush, seen behind the other two. It would look good with both the flowers of the fringe tree and the leaves of the redbud.
