We have a grand old cherry tree that is showing signs of stress: aphids, weeping cankers on the bark. Someone told me that it might be cherry blister which apparently is very serious and could infect other trees in the neighbourhood, in which case our only option would be to cut it down. Of course that would be a last resort. How can I determine if it is indeed this disease, or if it's something I can treat?
The Index of Fruit Disease Photographs, Biology, and Monitoring Information has factsheets on various cherry ailments.
