Here is a website for a live webcam of the Quad at University of Washington, Seattle. Watch the 'Somei-yoshino' in real time. Edited by wcutler - look farther down in this thread for the current year's link.
Cold weather stalls cherry blossoms; full bloom expected March 26 | UW Today More news from University of Washington, Seattle.
Isn't that a funny idea? It's like watching eagles sitting on their eggs, but a lot less activity. I guess it was easier to mount and post the video camera than to take a photo once a day.
Here is this year's live webcam at the University of Washington Quad overlooking the 'Somei-yoshino'. Watch them bloom.
Nearly 90-year-old University of Washington cherry trees approach full bloom History of the 'Somei-yoshino' at UW.
Well this is not a timely posting, but better later than never. Wendy Cutler and I travelled to Seattle to view the renowned 90-year old 'Somei-yoshino' at the University of Washington Quad on March 29, 2018. Biggest surprise of the day was the 'Choshu-zakura' at the Suzzallo Library. Micro Cherry Scouting.
Oh yes, there were 'Somei-yoshino' to be enjoyed on March 29, 2018 at the University of Washington Quad, too.
@Willard sent me this year's (2019) update for the U of W cherries, which I have posted elsewhere, but in case you're looking here, a more appropriate location, here it is. Re: the U. of Washington trees in Seattle. They are 'Somei-yoshino', slightly earlier bloomers than 'Akebono', and it is slightly warmer there than here, so I was surprised to read that they are only 25% open and are expect to be in bloom this weekend [March 30, 2019], which is what I think is the case for our Burrard Station trees. Iconic UW cherry blossoms expected to fully bloom this weekend! and the webcam:
Here are some photos from Shoreline News. I can't remember if they are all current photos or if they are from previous years. Shoreline Area News: Destinations: Cherry trees are in bloom at the University of Washington

Interesting article on predicting peak bloom. These guys take it seriously. UW students spearhead efforts to predict peak bloom for cherry trees
I don't know how to judge the percent open, but it looks like 5% to me, maybe 10%, for the Seattle 'Somei-yoshino' trees on March 24. I'm surprised the West End tree I posted yesterday is fully open ahead of the Seattle trees. I don't think this cultivar is open in other neighbourhoods here though.
Thanks to @Willard for reminding me to set a reminder to look at the 'Somei-yoshino' on the U. of Washington webcam. I kept remembering it at night, but I have just looked. It's spectacular. The link is in posting 16. Actually, what I'm seeing in the posting now is the current picture. Hmm - it's the current video still running. I have no idea what you get to see before you click it.
Being an old Dawg alum & fan (Go Huskies!) the U W quad cam is great And the thesis posted about the history of the trees is well worth reading (wcutler post above, earlier) In case a reader is low on battery &/or data - I took a screen shot of the cam today approx 5pm PDT and attached to this post so you can see a wee sample Magical!
Here is the 2022 UW Quad webcam. Trees are blooming now. Edited by wcutler: that was a live stream, no longer available. Here is a video posted April 10, 2022. 2022 University Of Washington Cherry Blossoms (4k, binaural audio) (youtube.com)
In case you missed them, here is a link to photos from the UW Facebook page. A non-Facebook user says she can see these. University of Washington added... - University of Washington
@Willard has sent a link to a very good visitor's video taken last year, April 7, 2023: UW Cherry Blossom 2023 | The Quad - University of Washington Seattle (youtube.com). The official UW blossom cam started streaming Jan 16, 2024, at (35) UW Cherry Blossom Cam (facing west from Miller Hall) - YouTube. It was night when I had a look, gives the impression that there are some flowers. The link on that page to "Watch our latest aerial video of the cherry blossoms" goes to a video from 2020.
