I wish that I could give all of you the snow in my yard. I’m sick of it! Merry Christmas.

Good morning A, if you can give yours a lot of shade throughout the Sumner months with other types of trees then you may get more success in the Autumn. But I do understand your predicament. I do see that Mr Maple offer a range of heat tolerant maples, so perhaps drop them a line.

Yes, That was the reason I got the Shantung which is fast growing and heat tolerant. Planted that in between the 2 Japanese maples for shades. We'll see how it goes. The Shantung is about 15ft+ now. From 6ft when it was planted 2 seasons ago.

Acer truncatum is one of my favorites. Hoping to get a ‘Baby Dragon’ or ‘Golden Dragon’.

I would love both of them, but I've been trying to get my hands on 'Baby Dragon'.

Sounds like you have it in hand. May take a few years, but it's worth the effort.

Hybrids of Acers from different sections are very unlikely.

Acer griseum belongs to the section "Trifoliata", series "Grisea"
Acer saccharum belongs to section "Acer", series "Saccharodendron".

See : List of Acer species - Wikipedia

There's a list of identified hybrids at the bottom of the page :

Miracle Gro's standard liquid formula does the trick. You don't need much -- even just one big feeding in the spring.

this is probably The ugliest maple in this thread lol. a very neglected, red maple (acer rubrum) seedling, fighting the odds of this california climate to survive.

Maybe fertilizer isn't the best thing for at this time?

not really trees yet but here are some seeds of acer macrophyllum (bigleaf maple) sprouting in the fridge after just 5 days of stratification.

As the talk is on hybrids, do have a look at the new Mr Maple Youtube video on BLUE maples. Its very good. And yes some people have actually bought these seeds.
