I planted this under a shade tree where nothing would grow, and it didn't do much. Unfortunately I transplanted by accident along with a hostas. Now it is in my main full-sun flower bed and sprouting in the midst of my prize perennials.

One year I tried digging out the entire bed to two feet and sifting soil, but some of the little root pieces survived. I pull multiple times every year. I've tried painting the leaves with undiluted Roundup concentrate (both straight glyphosate and the "Poison Ivy" version).

Last week I pulled a bottle off of our basement shelf from which directions were missing and painted leaves with a total vegetation killer (by accident, laziness, out of desperation). This was Prometon concentrate.

Have I sterilized my flower bed for up to 3 years and killed everything? Solutions?

Highly unlikely to have sterilized the bed if all you did is paint the leaves.
However you may not get any growth in the individual locations where it was
used. Then again Houttuynia is a hellacious plant and may come back to spite you.
