I'm a poet and I'm wondering if the term pine "candles" applies only to upright pine shoots, and if so what spruce (and other conifer) shoots might be called? I'm looking for alternatives to spruce shoots, or spruce sprouts, both awkward sounding. So far my best alternative is new spruce tips, except I don't care for new spruce rhyme. I also considered spruce growth except that could refer to expanding forests.

Leave out "spruce", presumably the subject is already established before you mention the shoots.
