It was found under a cedar shrub east of Toronto, Ontario. I understand that the edible Fungi as difficult to identify from the poisonous ones, but would just like to have an idea of the species. Thanks.

We need a look at the gills under the cap, and also to know a spore print colour. A picture of one cut in half vertically and how it smells, would also be very helpful.

If you provide there is a very good chance to get a correct ID.

What a great grouping...definately see if u can provide a close up of the underside of the cap? You can get the spore color by taking the cap and putting on a white and/or dark sheet of paper, gill/pore side down. In about an hour you might be able to see some results. Best display will come from the most mature looking cap.

In the absence of any additional information, it kind of looks like some Agrocybes I found the other day.

    Hi

Again, thanks for the response. Here is a cross section of a couple of them, as well as an under view of the original Fungi. The smell seems subtle and not unlike store-bought brown mushrooms. I am working on a spore print of the mature ones.

It looks to be growing on wood chips, so if you get a brown spore print, I vote for Agrocybe praecox or similar.

    Hi

Here is a picture of a section of the spore print and it does seem brown as well as the fact that they are growing in wood chips. It sounds like it is most likely an Agrocybe and probably 'praecox' judging from other pictures I have just compared with these specimens.

Fungi are quite fascinating and the identification procedures I have learned from all of you is invaluable. Thanks very much for your input!
