Hi everybody I have just bought a calamondin plant and at first everything was ok with it,i kept the soil moist and put the plant on a sunny windowsill and put it outside when the weather was nice but I've just noticed these little things on the leaves i wonder if anyone can tell me what they are and if they are bad,how to get rid of them,i haven't had much experience looking after plants so any replies will have to be in "laymans" terms please. Please look at the picture. Thanks in advance. Jackal
Would a white oil help this. Looks like a mealy bug??? put Mealy bug into Google images and see if they match http://www.garden-services.com/mealybug.html http://www.denverplants.com/foliage/html/Mealy.htm Liz
Thanks Liz I've been to those sites but it looks like they are on about these things in ones and two's but mine are in hundreds , do you think they are the same thing?
your plant has aphids, they can come in many different colours. you can either spray with a safers in secticidal soap, some diluted rubbing alcohol ( 50/50 with water). The aphids are sap sucking bugs and will eventually kill the plant if not taken care of right away.
Hi James i didn't know that aphids were that small ,and they don't seem to be moving about but they seem to be increasing in numbers so I'll get down to the chemists as quick as i can and get some rubbing alcohol. Just one thing , when they have been sprayed should i wipe them off or will they just fall off?
