Cactus is growing leaves

    Hello Plant Experts:

    My 5 foot tall cactus has sprouted what look like leaves. They are growing in the middle of the spines. Are they really leaves? Will they remain?

    Apparently so. Have a look at this page on Euphorbia trigona.

    As Junglekeeper mentions, it is a Euphorbia, not a cactus.

    Some cacti do actually have leaves though, but they are very small (at most 1 mm long) and soon drop off.

    It never occured to me that it might be a succulent. Now that I know what it is I can take better care of it.

    That was a really good read, thanks for that. I’ve seen this plant before and assumed too that it was from the cactus family.
