Photos from April 18, trying to get lost on my way home. Here is a tree I got all excited about on my way past, thinking it was 'Shogetsu', but it's a 'Shiro-fugen', on Grange east of Wilson. It looked more white from the car. Nearby on Chaffey at Burke is block of 'Kanzan' along one side of the street.
I have never been to the part of Burnaby north of Burnaby Lake and am amazed at how beautiful Lynndale Crescent is. I only had time to walk from the south end to the north, didn't have time to check out the neighbouring streets. It would be nice to go back at a time when the trees are blossoming. At the south end of Lynndale Crescent there is a footpath that connects to Winston Street. Near the footpath, at 3643 and 3639 are three upright trees with narrow crown. The blossoms are at their last gasp, since they are so upright, I think they are 'Kiku-zakura.' A few houses to the north, at 3619 Lynndale Crescent is a very beautiful tree that looks like a 'Beni-shidare.' And in the front lawn of 3615 is a large 'Kanzan.' The block of Edison west of Lynndale (a cul-de-sac) has 'Kanzan' on both sides of the road that will look quite beautiful when in bloom. On the other (east) side of Lynndale, the block of Portage (another cul-de-sac) also has 'Kanzan' on both sides.
Those are 'Kanzan', so upright because all the nice flowy branches have been pruned off. 'Kiku-zakura' petals would be much smaller, to fit in so many more petals into flowers that are much smaller than 'Kanzan'. I hope someone will photograph flowers on the 'Beni-shidare' next spring to confirm the ID.

Beautiful Yae-Beni-Shidare at Ridgeview Dr. near trail entrance There would be soon lots of Kanzan blooming
My favorite Yae-beni-shidare is in bloom on Duthie (corner of Curtis). It's facing West so the light is always perfect for photographs. It's near a bus stop - not great for wide shots but perfect for close-ups.
There's a large Beni-shidare on the front lawn of this residence in the Capital Hill area on Warwick corner of Pandora (it's near the park).
There's a medium-size Beni-Shidare at Trudy Court (corner of Aubrey), just off Duthie, in the front lawn of a residence.
At least 6 Shirotae at Bonsor Recreation Complex. Later we can see what are late blooming cherries, they are not Kanzan
