The two Shiro-fugen trees at 5617 Neville (north side, west of Plum), one large and mature, the other small and new, look like parent and child. In bloom April 21, 2020.
It looks like all the householders on this street must have gone all out on an Autumnalis Rosea group buy because there's practically a little tree in front of each front yard on both sides of Cambridge Street between N. Beta and N. Gamma Avenues. In Autumnalis Rosea's straggly, dime-size flower blooms at January 29, 2021. With thanks to Burnaby resident Lily who spotted them.
Another Autumnalis Rosea-lined route, Georgia Street west of Willingdon for several blocks has its trees in bloom at January 29, 2021.
The Okame on Charles Street (south side, west of Fell) has had a major amputation since last year's posting #352 and its 2013 days of glory at post #62. The entire branch once on its left side is gone, giving it a shorn, lop-sided look. Sorrowfully, at March 9, 2021.
Seven Okame on the courtyard of Telus building , Boundary & Kingsway , on Boundary. We called them "seven beauties". Photos taken by Green club scout , Sunny Chen.
2 Accolade cherries on the west side of Willingdon, one south of Canada way and another one south of Goard just started to bloom.
Two rare Shosar cherries are planted on the front yard of 5798 Sherban Cresent Burnaby. Photos taken by Green club scout , Sunny Chen. These two trees are huge, very pretty. Just wonder if the house owner knew they are called "Shosar cherry"? or they just wanted to plant a cherry tree and end up a rare one。
Two beautiful Shosar cherry trees are located in East-North Sherban Court, North Burnaby. they are in full blooming now.
Many magnificent Akebono Cherry Blossoms are located in Both side of Geogia Street in between Willington Ave. and Boundary Road. Almost 70% of them are in 50% blooming.
Somei-Yoshino are fully bloomed on Sperling (lots of trees scattered along Sperling, this one near Halifax).
Afterglow are going to bloom now. Cliff Ave. between Kitcherner and curtis . photos are taken by Sunny Chen.
Many people like to plant Ito-zakura. Smaller . location; 6854 Carnegie st . Photos taken by Sunny Chen.
Refer to the Map entry 14785 Emikat's posting Burnaby. Sunny Chen took this photos on 04/07. Located on 6568 Sumas drive . Just wonder is this snofozan or Ito-zakura(white weeping cherry)?
This one is located on 6507 Sumas. Actually, the VCBF website, cherry blossom neighbourhood map , on this address , Sunny found the posting photo is wrong. It should be this one. Edited by wcutler: the 6507 marker on the map points to this posting now.
Snofozam at 4692 Victory . Photos taken by Sunny Chen. After dropping off her grandaughter at the preschool , she always wandered around the community. She is a very good cherry scout.
I don't know. Is there a younger more obvious 'Snofozam' to compare it to? I would like to see more photos of calyx tubes and sepals, and of open leaves' margins. The photos of ito-zakura I've checked have more calyces that are more shapely, with a tighter constriction between the bulge and the sepals. It's just so hard to believe that those young 'Snofozam' grow up to look like this. Maybe we could compare leaves on both those trees too.
Here are some more photos, taken by Emily Tsai and Tony Chen, not taken at the same day. Hope they can help to identify what this cherry is. Leaves emerge green during flowering.
