This is my grafted blue spruce i planted too close to the house when it was a cute little shrub like shape that provided great color. Now it is wanting to grow like s normal spruce would with its pyramidal shape which isnt great for this space. Can i take the top 12 - 18 inches or so off now before the new growth sprouts? Its about 10/12 feet and appears super healthy

You could, but it would spoil the shape permanently. Either let it grow naturally, or else remove it completely and plant something new.

I understood that topping a conifer weakens the tree, so then you would have a weakened tree right next to your house.
