Blackberry eradication - solar sterilization using black plastic?

Anyone have any experience with eradicating blackberry through a combination of manual removal of canes and big roots followed by a thorough wetting down and "cooking" under black plastic in a sunny spot for a year? Would like to try this approach as it works well for other invasive weeds, but don't have personal experience using this technique for blackberrys.
