ANYONE HAVE EXPERIENCE GOWING CEDARS FROM SEEDS AND OR CUTTINGS? WHATS THE BEST TIME OF THE YEAR TO TAKE MATURE SEEDS AND CUTTINGS? I LIVE EAST OF TORONTO ONTARIO ! ALSO DOES ANY ONE KNOW A SOURCE FOR BLACK CEDAR SEEDLINGS/PLUGS OR TRANSPLANTS CONTACT NEIL AT 905-797-2958 EMAIL morcom@eagle.ca
Cedar cones are mature now. For Deodar Cedar, dry the cones out and they will disintegrate to release the seeds. For Lebanon and Atlas Cedars, soak the cones in ice-cold water for 3-4 days to soften them, then break the cones open by hand to get the seeds out. Cedars don't take from cuttings.
Thanks for your reply..... would this also apply to black cedar and white cedar?? .. thanks for now... [neil]
No cedars called 'black' or 'white' - can you post a photo of what you have, for identification? Some plants which aren't cedars are sometimes wrongly called cedars, and it could perhaps be one of those.
