    hi,

We have a few plants in my office window and i've been trying to id them all. This one is puzzling me - after extensive searching on the web, i've narrowed it down to either an arrowhead vine/syngonium, or perhaps a caladium. what do you think and how do you tell?? I don't want to mis-identify this one.

The photos are of the same plant, one better view of leaves and one of the stems, which seem important?

    Thanks!

i am pretty sure that is a Caladium .. arrowheads are close but do look a lil different .. not sure what kind of Caladium it is ..you might want to google that ... or someone else will chime in here and know the name..

Jointed, cane-like stems seem to me to rule against caladium.

do the jointed stems mean that it's an arrowhead vine then?

I don't know what it is, maybe within a few days somebody who does will come along.

I have a plant which looks very similiar to yours. It is a Syngonium but an uncommon variety. My plant was labelled Syngonium podophyllum Berry Allusion and the leaves are quite glossy and a deep pink/mahogany colour. Hope this helps.

Arrowhead is just a 'common' name for Syngonium.

Hi! I've been away for the holiday but I did another internet search on "syngonium podophyllum berry allusion" using chirita's information and found a tropical plant site (glasshouseworks) that had an image of a "syngonium podophyllum red plum allusion" that looks very much like my plant! I don't know if I can link to their image to post here so you can see? I'll try.

the description is "Very wide shimmery heart shaped leaves a rich blush red over a dusky bronze--emerges puckery."

based on the leaf similarities, I think this is a pretty good match. Although my plant seems more dark green at the edges, they are definitely very glossy, like chirita's. The photo on that other website for the berry allusion didn't look quite as red/pink as my plant, but it could be that also. I can't see the stem in the picture. I had no idea there were so many varieties of syngoniums!!

    What do you think?

Yours is more deeply colored but you are certainly in the neighborhood.

found another picture this morning: from a website called "agristarts" that has a few photos of syngonium varieties.

This one is less red. so -- syngonium "plum allusion". ( not red plum) apparently "allusion" means pink veined.

This search has been fun and I've learned a lot.
