While showing my espalier Apple tree, I found some kind of disease on two of my fruit today. I’ve never seen this before and have googled but couldn’t find any photos of common diseases in apples that looked anything like what I have. Wondered if anyone knows what it might be and can it be controlled or prevented.

That looks like some kind of brown rot due to physical damage; a bird or squirrel may have made a hole in the apple. I see lots of examples of squirrels sampling small pieces of unripe fruit.
