Here's a couple shots of a AP seedling found growing under a spirea. Replanted
about 4 months ago, was about 10 ", now is approximately 20" tall. It appears
very healthy but exhibits odd coloration. Part sun in morning, full sun for the rest of
the day. It looks sick, but it's growing like a weed. Photos taken 8/10/08.

I like the look of those leaves Cirque. Do you know which maple it came from? Do you think this is it's 2nd year?

Looks to be at least 3 or 4 years old. With its being in a small pot, the off-colour could be a nutrient deficiency or imbalance. I'd suggest planting it back in the ground to see if it does better there.

Looks reminiscent of a Shigitatsa sawa
I think it needs planting out, or at least repotted into a bigger pot

We have 3 "plain old greens", all about 15 years old. It must have come from
one of these. My wife was doing some heavy weeding around a spirea when
she found it underneath. Lucky little tree that she saw it. I think I'll take your
advice Michael, and plant it back in the ground this fall and see what it does next year.
