A local Nursery in my town is going out of business and they have an Aratama for half off. With a nice pot it's $175. It looks nice but it obviously has no leaves. The owner suspects it's 10 years old and has been kept relatively small it's roughly 3 feet tall by 3feet wide with about a 3 inch trunk. I know nothing about them and was wondering if anyone knows the light they like. I live in zone 9 where it gets very hot for 3 months a year. If I do buy it I plan on keeping it in the pot. I currently grow maples in containers but am a rookie any information would be helpful
From what I've read on the website of a local nursery, it ressembles 'Pixie' and 'Shaina'. Pink-red foliage in the spring, turning bronze-red (Vertrees : brick red to light purple-red) in summer then yellow-orange in autumn. Dwarfish, slow-growing. I find Aratama complety trouble free, no die back and tolerates pruning well. It's nice and compact whilst putting on good regrowth after pruning. Pictures takes in April.
