Sansevieria trifasciata (Mother-In -Law Tongue) Indirect light is good, these are low to med light plants, semi succulent. Direct sun can burn the leaves. Water every three to four weeks in the warmer months, less in the winter. If your lucky enough to have it flower, their scent is great, although, there might be a handfull of folks that don't care for it.

bluewing is right on the particular sansevieria.

it looks like it needs to be repotted and that it hasn't been getting enough water - the leaves should stand straight up.

you can split it out into two pots a size larger than that one or leave it all together and put it in one that is about twice the size of what you have now.

make sure you use pots that have drain holes in them. unglazed ceramic is best as they don't do well with soggy roots and the unglazed kind allow the soil to dry out easier. also, use a well draining soil - and definitely not something that will retain moisture (like that one miracle grow stuff).

You don't want to get to large a pot, or you could be looking at a rot issue, instead, find one that's only an inch or two larger.
