I saw this small tree in a container in London and would quite like to get one, but I have no idea what it is. Have asked my parents who said Mimosa but I don't think it is that...

Mimosa or Acacia of some sort - at any rate, one of the trees in the Fabaceae. London, England, or London, Ontario?

Architecture behind looks quintessentially English, so I'd assume London, England.

The plant looks to be Silver Wattle Acacia dealbata, fairly commonly cultivated in southern England.

Micheal, have you ever been to London, Ontario? It has it's share of quintessentially English. Although I think you're right on with A. dealbata.

It also think it is probably that genus but appearance does not seem characteristic of that particular species. With hundreds to choose from it seems it could easily be another, less familiar one.

Liz - Jacaranda are simple-pinnate, and this is compound-pinnate. I'm looking out my window into the canopy of a blooming one right now, and I can confirm that the leaves are simple, and not complex like the Acacia above.

Plus Jacaranda don't have thorns, which are clearly present in a nascent stage in the first picture.

Lorax glasses is what I need. I have a fair bit of trouble seeing the pics but you are right. Maybe I just can't get my head around Acacia growing in a pot :)
The closest Jacaranda is two doors down and it seems to have thosel ovely golden coloured leaves. Acacia around here don't have that soft look. Hows the rain we are still waiting for ours??

It's slowed down, but it's still going. At least I got to see the sun today.
