Again, I do not like to prune evergreens but we live on 33 ft. wide lot. Unfortunately before I could stop it a nameless person was convinced by neighbour to cut skirt of tree as well. Is there anything I can do now to get more green on bottom? Is this a Norway Spruce? I hope it isn't ID'd like my last one. See Spruce few days ago. Please tell posters not to trim skirts as nature provides a natural way to take care of grass. It won't grow under tree. Unless skirt is ugly or really tall & you want to hang lights, be lazy.

Such an awful shape I'd be inclined to remove and replace. The top is even worse than the base. Start afresh with a new tree that hasn't been mutilated at all.

Cannot start with new tree. It is nice size. I know shape is not great. When can we prune sides--best time Fall?

Lol, Jean, this is funny. Michael is among, if not the most knowledgable member frequenting the forums in respect to certain trees. It seems he prefers the natural looking trees and isn't much for topiary. Don't take the comments personally, couldn't help but laugh, welcome to the forums.

    ;-)

Here's what a Norway Spruce looks like when it is doing well and not cut to pieces:

Shear back new growth in spring or early summer. Will not be able to keep side along drive at the same point indefinitely, you have to let it grow a little each year. Do not cut new growth completely off. The crowding can only be resolved by moving or removing the tree.
