i found this growing under a white pine. the spore print is pale yellow, it has a distinctive "fishy" smell but tastes like the typical white mushroom sold in markets. the cap is 7 cm and the stem has a light pinkish blush on parts of it. could this be Russula xerampelina (as suggested for the last unknown i posted)? the color of the cap is darker and more brownish than it appears in the photo. thanks, paul
It does look like Russula xerampelina. Although I tend to think of this species as having a red cap, David Arora notes in Mushrooms Demystified that R. xerampelina can have olive-brown to yellow-brown caps (among many possible colors).
