At the risk to my own personal well being, i have another maple question. The first pic is of a green japanese maple i've had for about 15 years. I've always been on the lookout for volunteers sprouting from the seed of this tree to no avail. The second two pics are of a small tree i just found nearby the original tree . Could it be offspring of the original tree, even though the leaves are red & green?
Yes, Acer palmatum seedlings can be quite variable in leaf colour and/or shape. If that green one is the only Japanese maple around it must be the parent.
Thanks. I do have 2 other japanese maples but they are the red variety and i've never seen seed on either one.
